As a self-taught encaustic artist, I have gained valuable insight into my own artistic development through workshops and collaborative experiences with distinguished artists. My creative process enables me to transcend external distractions and societal expectations, alowing for the development and expression of a distinctive artistic vision. I am particularly interested in uncovering beauty in often overlooked subjects and incorporating unconventional materials such as nautical and braille alphabets into my work. These pursuits have resulted in a portfolio of original and innovative creations.
About the Artist
Marlene Fuhrmann calls White Rock, BC her home. As an avid gardener, she nurtures two thriving bee hives in her backyard. Art has always been a part of Marlene's life, but since 2011, she has poured her creativity into encaustic painting, a fascinating technique that utilizes melted wax. Marlene is captivated by the aroma and fluidity of the wax, and she loves experimenting with its endless variations, resulting in artwork that showcases depth and luminosity. It is this unique medium that truly inspires her artistic journey.
Marlene’s art captures unique beauty in the discarded. She mixes these objects with nature itself and this juxtaposition of materials can be seen in many of her art works.
The inception for using Braille in her encaustic art began a a few years ago when she became intrigued by the organized dots with mysterious messages. Marlene’s journey exploring ways to use this very non-traditional material into her visual art had begun and has resulted in many unique and creative pieces.
Her work is displayed in many private collections throughout Canada, the United States and Europe.
