‘October Skies’ is a photo encaustic artwork capturing the ever-changing sky above the City of White Rock. Each day during the month of October, I photographed the sky between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., documenting its subtle and dramatic shifts. These daily images were then transferred onto 4 x 4 balsa wood panels and enhanced with many layers of encaustic beeswax, merging photography with tactile, textural painting techniques.
The sky, visible to everyone regardless of neighbourhood, housing, lifestyle, or occupation, serves as a unifying force within our city. By focusing on this shared element of nature, the artwork highlights a collective experience that transcends individual differences. ‘October Skies’ celebrates the sense of unity and connection that the natural world inspires across the entire community.
